I'm seriously considering hennaing my hair. I've used synthetic dyes before to go red, and I kind of liked the results when they were fresh, but they annoyed me as they faded out over time. This led to me redying my hair more frequently than I probably should have using those synthetic dyes. I'd also experimented with purple a couple different times, and while fun, not something I'm interested in doing again because of how shitty the bleach is on my hair.

Family has always bitched at me when I've dyed my hair. "Oh, your hair's so pretty, why would you dye it!?" and "You know, there are some women who pay hundreds of dollars to get hair like yours". It's one of those things that people can get bored with over time, the more I looked at my brown hair with the sun streaks, the more tired I got with it. While part of the reason I'd stopped dying my hair red in the first place had been trying to cut back on my spending, it also annoyed the hell out of me the damage that was being done to my scalp. I've always had oily skin, so it's frustrating to me to have dyed so much that now my scalp is a little on the dry side.

When one can find henna that hasn't got weird shit mixed into it, the colors that result are pretty. Also, it's supposed to help some with the dry scalp that results from the excessive use of synthetic dyes. When I looked into using henna the first time, I was hoping to find somewhere that actually had pure henna in stock where I could buy it, but I couldn't find anything but the kits that had shit mixed into the henna. And what's the point of going henna if you're just going to get the damn synthetic shit mixed in too?

Anyhow, I am seriously considering the henna, but I need to decide what shade or tint I'd like to aim for, order the henna and figure out what sort of mix I want to use on my hair. I've been checking out Henna for Hair to try to figure out how I want to attack this. I'm inclined towards a deep red, but I might consider a brighter shade if I think my complexion won't fight it too badly. I seem to have been a little more red in the face lately than I've been for a while, so the brighter red might not work out. I'll ponder on it and see what I decide on.

dreams

I had a dream last night that I'd cut my hair again. I'd cut it into that really short hair cut with the long bangs again. What was weird about it was that the hair cut occurred during a day where I either had forgotten my memory, or I'd blacked out, so once I'd realized what happened, I'd panicked because my hair had been waist length before being cut, and the really short hair didn't really suit my face. I think my brother was involved in the hair cutting process, but he insisted that I'd asked for it. I honestly couldn't remember any of the proceeding day, so I couldn't really argue with him about that point except from the perspective of "I hadn't even been considering cutting it like that again!".

I'm not sure what to think of this dream. The most drastic cut I want to do right now is 6" off the end of my hair to get rid of the areas that'd been bleached when my hair was still short. My hair'll still at least be down to my bra strap even with that much cut off, so it's nowhere close to the hair cut I ended up with in my dream.

twig, just an object, gun

I'm not sure what brand/shade I want to do yet, and I'm not 100% sure I do want to do it, but I am seriously thinking about it. Also to avoid the problems I had last time, I'll time it in google calendar so I don't do it too frequently. Give me your thoughts, please.

This turnin' myself into a red head thing is prooving to be a bit more of a challenge than I'd hoped. I keep using these DIY kits (Clairol Natural Instincts Exotic, Peruvian Fire), this is my second attempt to do it myself... and I got the back great this time (that was my problem spot last time) but I didn't play with my bangs enough, and somehow the middle part of 'em didn't pick up the color as much. I'll get it right next time I hope. But it doesn't look like bad or anything, I don't think... so well, I'm happy.

I just finished my first attempt to dye my hair on my own... I think from now on, I'll let someone help me. I'm not sure if I got enough of the junk on my hair... it's not looking as bright as it should as it's drying.... I donno. We'll see when my hair completely drys... At least I don't think it's gonna look like crap, since red's not too far from my natural color that it'll look stupid if I missed a bit or something.

I seem to be on this quest to become a red head... and it seems to not work as well as I hope *shrug* I'll get it sooner or later.
