So, in light of handing over my business card to someone who I wish to impress because he is involved in the making of awesome music, I decided to finally move my update of my domain forward from where I'd left it in a holding pattern back in like February or March. At the time, I'd gotten my style switching working correctly on the photo gallery, and I was happy with the results. I'd originally been holding off because I wanted to come up with new styles to match all the old style names, so that I could continue to use the same cookie from before, but given that inspiration had failed to strike me, I selected to just change the cookie name.
When I had uploaded all the changes, fixed everything to reflect the main directory instead of the "lab" subdirectory I'd been testing everything in, and I find that the style sheet switcher is failing to work! I check, and double check, that I'd updated all the bits of html and php I need to, make sure I don't have a cache plugin enabled on the photo gallery or some shit, and am left completely and utterly lost as to what I did wrong.
In the end, what I did wrong? I'd been editing a file I'd previously given up on using, instead of the main template page, so when I thought I'd been applying the correct changes to everything, I wasn't. Everything seems to be working now, so I am happy. Now I need to come up with new styles to choose from, and more writing to post.

At work, to make us familiar with a program we offer in our printing department, they're letting us make business cards for free. We get 250 matte business card to show that we're familiar with this system.
I was originally going to attempt to make my business cards for Brass Frog Webdesigns, but the limiting factors of the program (intended to make it easy for uncreative people to make their own business cards) kept me from doing anything that vaguely resembled what I'd established on the site.
Since I wasn't able to make time to design something at home, and bring it in for printing, I decided to just make myself some generic business cards. I have to see how they come out printed, but I think they looked pretty shiny on the preview. I took my hacker with a sword fetish colorized in purple, and placed it on the business card. Otherwise, it just has my name, email, phone number and url on it, as well as a declaration that I'm a writer, artist and web designer.
I hope they turn out awesome. Granted, being free, I can't complain much if they aren't awesome, but it would be nice to have business cards even if I'm not even sure what I'd even do with them. At least, if I do like how these come out, I'll have to remember to go through work if I need to print business cards eventually. Once I have a design for Brass Frog business cards, it would be nice to have some of those to hand out if needed.

So, I'd been battling the php style switcher on my domain to let me set my style sheets for my photo gallery, but today I have won. The problem was the place I learned about it from was using lazy simple PHP, using $cookie_name to call the cookie, where security minded servers won't allow that across subdirectories and subdomains. Once I learned that, I corrected it to $_COOKIE['cookie_name'] and now it works tits. I am most happy now. ^_^ Just need to finish with the style sheet stuffs, and I can officially launch the new revision of the domain. I am most bouncy about this development. I should go over to my dad's, see my niece, and scan negatives today, so that I have stuff to work with for additional styles. Yay! - feeling: productive
- hearing: Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! ~ The Beatles
- flags: :), domain, recap, yay

So playing with the jabber on my hosting package today lead to me setting up a chat room. Anyone who wants can come join the fun. The room's named "chat" and the server is "conference.jabber.deathkitten.net". Even if I'm not around to talk, I should be idling in there, and I've set it up so it's a permanent chat room too. :)
For those of you who aren't familiar with the jabber thing, this means the LJ Talk and Google Talk that comes with your LJ and Gmail accounts respectively. Come talk to me!

Stupid Gallery just has to be difficult in allowing me to fold it into my site style easily doesn't it? They dumb things down for the average person, and basically cripple my ability to use php normally to do what I want. I was hoping to just use one set of files to put in my site styling across the whole site, but it's starting to look like I'm going to have to update the gallery template whenever I update the site files for the header, footer and such. Meh.
I suppose this is what I get for wanting to work with a system someone else made. Sometimes I wish I knew enough to not have to depend upon anyone else to do anything for me, because it makes it difficult sometimes to do what I want when I have to amend and change what other people do in order to make it work as I need it to. One size never fits all, it just kinda half assedly meets the minimum requirements for the majority.

I need a right and proper tricorner pirate hat. I think I could whip up a decent enough Pirate outfit once I have the right hat. I know my hair can easily look the part and the makeup isn't very hard at all. Besides, I have the urge to be pirate like.
In other news, I really really really need a job. I applied for one via Monster today, but I don't exactly qualify for it. The job's been listed on the site for a while, so maybe they'll take me for it anyways. We'll see. Also, teferi mentioned a job in NYC that I'll have to investigate too. If I think I have any chance of getting the job, I will attempt to sell him on letting me move in and share a 15x15 studio apartment. He insists it can't work, but he hasn't experienced my amazing packing skills. ^_^
I really should finish with my updating and spiffing up of DeathKitten.net and BrassFrog.net. It would help if I had sites that had been improved recently to put on my resume. Woo.
